About Us
The Toronto Area Council is an authorized local council of the New Democratic Party of Ontario formed to provide a vehicle for NDP members in Toronto to work together to develop and strengthen the party in Toronto and engage in the social issues of the day. The Council consists of two parts, the formal Toronto Area Council (TAC) elected and run according to a constitution and the TAC Working Groups open to all Toronto NDP members. Read our Constitution.
You can participate in the formal Council through your riding association as a Provincial Council Representative, by running for election to a Council position or as a special section or ethnic committee rep.
You can also participate by joining one or more of the Working Groups. You can even start a new workgroup!
Current Working Groups are Communications, Riding Development, Training and Education and Program and Policy. See Working Groups below for more details.
TAC Working Groups
The heart of the council is the TAC Working Groups. They are open to all NDP members in Toronto. Join a Working Group! Click on workgroup tab to find out more about the Working Groups and to contact the Working Group chairs.

The TAC Steering Committee

The Steering Committee coordinates and directs the TAC Working Groups, facilitates and organizes the general meetings of the TAC, allocates financial resources and manages the budget, with duties of members as outlined in the by-laws.
At least one half of the elected members of the Steering Committee shall be women.
Steering Group members are elected at the AGM and serve for one year. Working Groups choose their own chairs who are then members of the Steering Group.
Although individuals may hold more than one Steering Committee position, they get only one vote in Steering Committee decisions.
For more information on the Steering Committee and the duties of Steering Committee members, see the TAC constitution.
